Land Contamination

Part 2A of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 requires local authorities in Wales to locate sites potentially affected by land contamination within their boundaries, to prioritise these sites from highest to lowest risk, and to investigate those where there is thought to exist a significant possibility of significant harm to human health.  We would appreciate if you can supply us with the answers to our questions below regarding this topic.  1. Out of the records of sites identified as being potentially affected by contamination by the Council, how many sites are currently designated under the highest risk category?  2. How many of these high-risk sites have become known to the Council within the last 3 years?  3. Of the current sites you have designated under the highest risk category, how many of these have been inspected (i.e. a physical intrusive investigation and not a desktop study)?  4. How many sites previously identified as being high-risk have been inspected and downgraded to a lower risk category?  5. How many sites have been inspected and found to have significant levels of contamination, but have since been remediated to remove any significant risk to health?  6. Are there any sites that have been inspected, wherein significant risk to health from contamination was identified, but remedial work has not been completed? If so, please provide with the number of these sites. 7. Are you able to supply us with the reports from your Part 2A of Environment Protection Act (1990) investigations which have already been carried out by the council?
