Newgale Coastal Adaption Information
Could you please provide the following information which as requested at the recent consultation in Roch but was not available or unclear at the time. 1) what has been the frequency of road closures at Newgale due to over topping of the pebble bank per year in the last 10 years. 2) What has been the frequency of road closure at Newgale due to over topping of the pebble bank since 2018. 3) For how long on average do the closures last? 4) Statement in the online presentation "becoming increasingly costly" - how much has been spent per year on moving pebbles after over topping in the last ten years? 5) What is the total cost of the Newgale adaption project to date and what has been the source of funding for this? (There was some discussion ranging from £2million to £3million) 6) What is the estimated cost of the project implementation based on the proposals shown at the presentation in January 2025? 7) Movement of the pebble bank inshore as shown in the presentation- is this model based on a predicted sea level rise? If so by how much and over what time scale? What is the source for this data? 8) What would happen to the position of the pebble bank with no intervention ie how far inland would the pebble bank move and over what time scale? at the presentation in Roch It was suggested that the bank would flatten out but not travel inland further than the Duke of Edinburgh, could this be clarified please. 9) Are there any plans for coastal adaption or flooding management strategies for Haverfordwest? NRW have modeled flooding in the county hall and riverside arcade areas. 10) If the pebble bank moves up to the Duke of Edinburgh as per the presentation, what is likely to happen to the out fall position of the river, is it likely to change? It was suggested that it may straighten out, has this been modeled at all? 11) Rerouting - What be would the cost of a temporary one way system and improved temporary signage (Roch to Brawdy/Pen Y Cwm)? Assuming that other options have been examined, what would the cost of minor road improvements on the existing inland roads be? 12) Proposed Brandy Brook crossing by new road - 2/3rds of the valley width will be lost by back fill (confirmed by PCC representitive at Roch presentation). Due to this restriction what impact will this have on the valley floor environment upstream of this point? 13) Board walk - rerouting of the coast path onto a new raised boardwalk to the rear of the existing campsite. What will own it? Who will maintain it? Who will replace it? What is its expected life-span? What is the estimated cost of this item? 14) Removal of the old road. It was stated that the old road would be removed immediately upon the opening of the proposed new road despite the expected advancement of the pebble bank to this point. Could you please clarify why the old road must be removed?
