A487 Newgale Road Closure: Costs, Proposals, and Sustainability
I have read that PCC are proposing to remove the A487 at Newgale and replace it with a road link 2.3km inland including a bridge over Brandy Brook. (1) Please tell me how much has been spent on just re-opening the road since the storm of 2014, please do not include general road repairs such as potholes and work carried out for sewage and power in this? (2) Please tell me the estimated cost of just the bridge over Brandy Brook? (3) How many times has the A487 been closed to traffic since 2014 due to storms? A report by AtkinsRealis states that "continued efforts to maintain the shingle ridge as a defence is highly unlikely to be sustainable beyond 2035, more likely 2030. (4) Is this report based on future predicted costs? (5) What are the future predicted costs used in this report, either yearly or in total? (6) Is the shingle barrier a legally protected feature in law? (7) How much is currently spent maintaining the shingle barrier? (8) Do AitkinsRealis or PCC plan to remove the shingle barrier? (9) How long has the shingle barrier been in place?
