Attended and unattended cremations, 2015-2026
Please provide the following information separately for each crematorium your authority operates or administers, including on behalf of a joint committee. This request does not cover privately operated crematoria simply located within your council area. For each calendar year from 2015 to 2025 inclusive, and separately for 1 January-31 August 2025 and 1 January-31 August 2026, please provide: The total number of cremations. The number carried out without a service at the crematorium and with no mourners attending. The number involving an attended service at the crematorium. Any separately recorded figures for limited-attendance services, sometimes described as 'direct plus' or 'simple' services, using your own category names. Please also provide: The definitions used for these categories, whether they overlap, and details of any changes to definitions or recording during the period. The date a specific direct or unattended cremation package was first offered, and the date these cremations were first recorded separately, if different. Recorded dates of significant closures or restrictions on operations that affected annual cremation numbers. For clarity, I am interested in attendance and services at the crematorium, regardless of whether a separate gathering took place elsewhere. Please use existing recorded categories and explain their meaning. If your records cannot distinguish cremations without a service or mourners, please state this rather than assuming that every booking labelled 'direct' meets that definition. Please distinguish between zero cremations and information not held or not separately recorded. If records do not cover the full period, please provide the available years and identify the earliest year held. Please clarify whether totals include infant cremations or communal cremations of pregnancy remains, and provide existing separate categories where held. An Excel or CSV file would be preferable, with each crematorium identified separately. If any part of this request would exceed the cost limit, please contact me to discuss narrowing it. My priority is the annual totals and attendance breakdowns, together with their definitions.
