Primary School Early Reading Instruction Methods
Under the Freedom of Information Act 2000, I would like to request the following information: For the most recent academic year for which you hold data, how many primary schools within your local authority area: a. Explicitly use systematic synthetic phonics as the principal method for teaching early reading (e.g., through a named SSP programme). b. Use some form of phonics as the principal method for teaching early reading. c. Use cueing strategies (such as three-cueing systems, including picture, context, or syntax cues) as part of their approach to teaching early reading d. For questions a-c above, please provide a list of the names of each primary school included within the total e. The percentage of primary schools within your local authority area that use systematic synthetic phonics as the principal method for teaching early reading (e.g., through a named SSP programme). f. The percentage of primary schools within your local authority area that use some form of phonics as the principal method for teaching early reading. g.
